Analysis of Characteristic Copier Marks and Comparison of Copied Documents
These examinations determine whether a photocopy was produced on the same photocopier as another photocopy, by comparing the two documents, or whether it was produced on a particular photocopier, by comparing it with reference copies obtained from that machine.
Important Note: All of the results described above are possible only to the extent supported by the findings that can be established during the examination (class and characteristic features as well as accidental characteristics).
- Machine Source Identification Analysis of the make/model or the specific device from which the documents originate.
- Accidental Characteristics Analysis Marks transferred onto the document by defects on the copier’s drum, toner system or glass.

Legal Framework for Photocopied Documents and Copier Source Identification
Copier source examination of photocopied documents helps establish, in legal proceedings, which device a document was produced on. Whether a document counts as an official or a private document determines whether forgery is assessed under Article 204 or Article 207 of the Turkish Criminal Code (TCK).
-
TCK Article 204 — Forgery of Official Documents
A person who falsely produces an official document, alters a genuine one so as to deceive others, or uses a forged official document is punishable by 2–5 years’ imprisonment.

TCK Article 207 — Forgery of Private Documents
A person who falsely produces a private document, or alters a genuine one so as to deceive others and uses it, is punishable by 1–3 years’ imprisonment.

Code of Civil Procedure (HMK) Article 199 — Documents
Under the HMK, written or printed texts, deeds, drawings, plans, sketches, photographs, films, image or sound recordings, electronic data and similar data carriers capable of proving the facts in dispute are documents.
